Prayer Thought: The End for Which God Created Us to Pray

“If God sees that my spiritual life will be furthered by giving the things for which I ask, then He will give them, but that is not the end of prayer. The end of prayer is that I come to know God Himself.”

-Oswald Chambers

1 John 5:14-15 states, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of Him.” This passage is not saying that God is some kind of magic genie granting our every wish. We must ask in accordance with His will. How do we know what God’s will is in a certain situation for which we are praying? We must be willing to sacrifice our own will and make it bow to His instead (Romans 12:1-2)! In doing so, we draw closer to knowing God Himself.

Prayer Action:

What is one thing/situation in your life that you need to pray through to sacrifice your own will and replace with the Lord’s will. Pray through that situation this week and lay it down at the foot of the cross.

Blessings,
