Prayer Thought: The Force of Your Prayers

“We must begin to believe that God, in the mystery of prayer, has entrusted us with a force that can move the Heavenly world, and can bring its power down to earth.”

-Andrew Murray

Have you ever thought about the potency there is in Kingdom prayer? What about the power of prayer? God, in His infinite wisdom has shown us HOW to pray? It’s actually one of the main questions the disciples asked Jesus to teach them…how to pray. Do we truly believe that the God of the Universe has ‘entrusted us with a force that can move the Heavenly world.’? How effective do you think your prayer is in the grand scheme of things?

Chances are, much like me, many of us know how difficult prayer as a spiritual discipline is. In fact, I would venture to say many of us don’t really believe that our prayer amounts to much of anything. After all, as many distractions as we have during the day we sometimes wonder if the hail Mary prayers we attempt to launch up to God even make it past the ceiling, let alone make it straight to Him and get answered…whether good, bad, or neutral from our standpoint.

But what if we started to REALLY believe that God has commissioned us for something so great, so monumental, so beyond our comprehension that we would stand in complete awe of what He has been able to accomplish. It takes us trusting, not doubting, not only in the sovereignty and sufficiency of who God is in His character, but also experiencing prayer and answers to prayer with a force that has never been matched by anyone or any THING on this planet.

So, I’m sure I’ve posed this question before, but what is something absolutely unimaginable in your life or in this world that you can think of where you are literally “livin’ on a prayer?” Do you have someone or something you’ve prayed for 20 years in the making that still hasn’t been answered or fulfilled? Have lost hope of it being answered and lost the potency in your praying because of it? What is the outcry of your heart when you pray? All we have to do is turn on 5 minutes of the news and we’re bombarded by horrible atrocities at ever turn.

The past 2 years COVID has blazed a massive trail of despair and sickness into our world. The Lord has given us such a mighty force through prayer that we can move the Heavenly world to bring forth God’s power to get this pandemic completely under control. What about racism? Do you believe your prayer can affect your community in such a way that it brings an end to racism in whole cities across the USA and to the ends of the earth? There are very serious threats looming about Russia going to war against Ukraine. We have missionaries in both places! Do you believe that your praying can put an end to a war?!?! Be reminded of Jesus’ words in John’s Gospel:

“I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take HEART! I have overcome the world (Jn 16:33).”

The very One we are praying to, we are pleading with, we are bringing supplications to, is the very same Lord that has completely overcome the world. I don’t know about you, but I think I want to be on His side! And when we ask with the right motives, we KNOW that He hears us and longs to give good gifts to His own…ANSWERS to our prayers.

Prayer Action:

At least 3 times this week take some time to dwell on the fact that you have been given an unstoppable force in your prayers. Pray bold, pray expectantly, pray monumental things that only the sovereign Father can answer
